The list of possible retained surgical instruments is large including needles, clamps, scalpels, sponges, towels, scissors, tweezers, forceps, scopes, measuring devices, suction tips and tubes, etc. A surgeon is estimated to use between 250-300 surgical tools throughout a surgery.
